We, Holly Ann Prince-Jensen & Bruce Keating McClelland, are two professional fully licensed funeral directors that opened Considerate Cremation & Burial Services Inc. in St. Catharines to make the process of honouring those important to us as simple and cost-effective as possible. We do it by providing basic options to full funerals and everything in between at prices that are
substantially less than those of full size traditional funeral homes. We achieve this goal by reducing overhead costs, all the while maintaining high standards of care and professionalism.
It forces people to say “Do I have to give up my rent money to pay for this?” It puts people in a bad spot when that shouldn’t happen. We just felt there was a better way to provide services at a time of need. We do not want to take away their children’s education fund to pay for their parent’s funeral services.
We offer a quiet room to spend some time with your loved one. This allows a family an opportunity to have some private time to say goodbye as not all deaths occur in an environment that may lend itself to privacy … there may be police, EMS or firefighters attending a death at a house or even if a death occurs in a hospital there could be commotion and lack of privacy so we offer this to every family at no charge to have some time for closure.
Included in our service we assist in creating the notice for the newspaper and our webpages. There is no charge for this service – only a charge from the paper for it to appear in their publication. We assist in preparing the documents to apply for the Canada Pension Death Benefit
and the Survivor’s Benefit. We will provide a comprehensive check list of things that must be completed when someone passes away. We offer, as a courtesy service Estate Fraud Protection Service
which includes notifying the credit bureaus to prevent identity theft and protecting the social insurance card from fraudulent usage; a walkthrough data assistant and supply a portfolio that allows for the estate settlement papers to be kept together. When dealing with clearing an estate you will require the Funeral Director’s Statement Of Death Certificates
(aka Death Certificates)
that we will create for you, if you need more to complete this process simply phone to let us know and they will be ready at no charge.
That difference in cost alone can provide great comfort to grieving families who may not have life insurance or require a discretionary benefit to cover funeral expenses. We accept the discretionary support benefit offered by The Region and do not require the difference be paid by the family.
Holly & Bruce are aware that that 83 per cent of people are opting for
cremation, up sharply from 23% in the early 1990’s. They know this from their combined 50 years of experience as funeral directors and research they did when creating their business plan. Requests to forgo visitation and full services are also becoming more common as families opt for customized
memorial services. We felt that families should be given the chance to arrange for the services they wanted without being pressured into purchasing items within packages they perhaps did not see value in and also being treated in a fair manner and not meant to feel less than proper for opting to select minimal services. We also felt it was very important to provide a warm relaxing atmosphere for families to be able to have some space to deal with their situation and not feel as if they were crammed into a makeshift office space. We have a very modest environment yet it’s very comfortable to assist families while they are here with us.
We’re here to serve families. This allows us to keep costs down. We’re also not beholden to shareholders and accountants. We’re able to do what a family wants and we won’t turn down a family’s request. It’s freedom to serve a family the way they want to be served.
